Founded by an American citizen in 1983, it is also a rehabilitation and educational research center for wildlife today. Why exhaust yourself on an arduous hike through a cave system when you can enjoy a leisurely float through the area’s most impressive structures carved from the limestone over centuries by the very river you’ll travel by?

In the far past, Belize was a broad, shallow sea where the conditions for limestone creation were perfect. Eventually, the Maya Mountains formed, pushing this limestone upward above sea level. Water flowing down from the mountains then slowly dissolved the limestone, creating the breathtaking caves that captured the adulation of the Mayans much in the same way it does to us today.
