ZIP LINING tours starts at $195

A rainforest’s canopy is its most impressive display of diversity and life. Up here, 100 feet from the ground, life flourishes in the sunshine so well that many animals spend their entire lives in the treetops. From monkeys to breathtakingly beautiful orchids, it’s a wonderland of enchantment.

This majestic world doesn’t have to be hidden any longer when you adventure out by zip lining at Caves Branch. Heralded as one of the best experiences Belize has to offer, you begin by heading up to the top of the forest where you reach a platform linked to other platforms to create a canopy highway. Securely strapped into a harness and attached to a steel cable, you’ll be taught the proper zip lining method before jumping off the edge and sliding toward your next destination.

Each of these platforms is positioned so you get the most out of your experience flying through the treetops. For those that are scared of heights, there are exit points at each platform should the adventure get too intense. However, there’s no need to fear as the cables used are made to withstand 2,000 pounds of pressure. To further ensure safety, you are given a helmet, gloves and harness while professional guides man each platform.

If you want a view that few rarely glimpse, zip lining at Caves Branch is the perfect activity to make your Belize trip an experience you’ll cherish for the rest of your life.

As home to the largest cave system in the entirety of Central America, a visit to Belize feels incomplete without at least one adventure below the earth. Why exhaust yourself on an arduous hike through a cave system when you can enjoy a leisurely float through the area's most impressive structures carved from the limestone over centuries by the very river you'll travel by?

In the far past, Belize was a broad, shallow sea where the conditions for limestone creation were perfect. Eventually, the Maya Mountains formed, pushing this limestone upward above sea level. Water flowing down from the mountains then slowly dissolved the limestone, creating the breathtaking caves that captured the adulation of the Mayans much in the same way it does to us today.

As you embark on this adventure, you'll follow a trained guide on a 30 minute hike through the jungle until you reach the gentle, clear waters of the river that will whisk you away on your journey. Once safely situated in your inner tube, simply lay back and relax as you float by impressive stalactites, ancient sacred areas worshiped by the Mayans and animals you rarely get to glimpse during the day.

By the end, you'll have reached the shores of the trail where you first began your adventure. Moreso than any other adventure in Belize, cave tubing is perfect for everyone, young and old alike, as you make a journey through the Mayan underworld.

According to legends dating back to initial explorations in 1892, the Mayan city whose original name is still unknown is haunted by the ghost of a woman all in white with glowing red eyes. After appearing at the base of the city’s temple, El Castillo, she’ll ascend the steps and disappear into the structure’s wall. This phenomena soon earned the city the name Xunantunich, or “stone woman”.

Whether or not the legend is true, a journey to Xunantunich is a journey into a place of mysticism. As the Mayan empire crumbled across the Yucatan, Xunantunich’s power grew. It became such an important center that it even managed to construct the second tallest man-made structure in Belize, El Castillo. Excavations also show that it was completely deserted during the Classic Period due to some sudden catastrophic event theorized to be an earthquake.
